Allah (swt) quantifies the extent to which we can seek revenge against someone who has wronged us (an eye for an eye). BUT, the reward for forgiving the person is INFINITE.

Something else to consider: when we think we’re getting revenge equally, how do we know we hurt the person in the same way as they hurt us? Will we leave justice to ourselves or to Allah? hmm…that’s a no brainer…

this is slightly off topic but once in an ummah films video, bro. Ali told a story about 2 people. They were both walking home early morning, one after spending the whole night praying and worshipping Allah swt, and the other after spending the night partying. They both assumed that the other had spent the night the same way they had. SubhanAllah.
That really struck a cord with me, cuz it shows the effects of our actions on our hearts, and in turn the effects of our hearts on our thoughts.
So basically, if our hearts were pure, and someone wronged us, our first reaction wouldn’t be “REVENGE!”, but it would be “Forgive.” And if it IS “revenge!”, then there’s something wrong with our hearts. And if there’s something wrong with our hearts, we need to investigate our actions and reflect on what’s wrong with them.
