You are…

You are strong…
when you take your grief and teach it to smile…

You are brave…
when you overcome your fear and help others to do the same.

You are happy…
when you see a flower and are thankful for the blessing.

You are loving…
when your own pain does not blind you to the pain of others.

You are wise…
when you know the limits of your wisdom.

You are true…
when you admit there are times you fool yourself.

You are alive…
when tomorrow’s hope means more to you than yesterday’s mistake.

You are growing…
when you know what you are but not what you will become.

You are free…
when you are in control of yourself and do not wish to control others.

You are honorable…
when you find your honor is to honor others.

You are generous…
when you can take as sweetly as you can give.

You are humble…
when you do not know how humble you are.

You are thoughtful…
when you see me just as I am and treat me just as you are.

You are merciful…
when you forgive in others the faults you condemn in yourself.

You are beautiful…
when you don’t need a mirror to tell you.

You are rich…
when you never need more than what you have.

You are fortunate God gave you the blessing to remember Him while others do not perceive this reality.

You are you…
when you are at peace with who you are not.

‘No weapon that is known on earth can yield the power praise can do alone; so praise your Lord is you wish to be successful.’

When your heart swells…

No I’m not talking about cardiac hypertrophy, I mean when the dunya throws so many trials in your face at once, you feel hopeless, helpless, and utterly empty. But…fa innamal ‘usri yusra…have trust in the One who put you in that situation. WITH difficulty, comes ease (not “after” but “WITH”).

To help soothe a troubled and de-taqwified nafs:

malheuresement, je suis lasse de ce monde…j’ai arrêté de sourire…le jour ne peut pas arriver assez rapidement…

Ounce of prevention, pound of cure

Repel the thought, for if you don’t, it becomes an idea. So repel the idea, for if you don’t it will become a desire. So fight against that (desire), for if you don’t, it will become a determination and a passion. And if you don’t repel that, it will become an action. And if you don’t replace it with its opposite, it will become a constant habit. So at that point, it will be difficult for you to change it.
– Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah [from al-Fawaa’id]

Salaah is a light

Hadith 23

On the authority of Abu Malik al-Harith bin ‘Asim al-Ash’ari, radiyallahu ‘anhu, who said: The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, said:

“Purification is half of iman (faith). Saying ‘Al-Hamdulillah’ (Praise be to Allah) fills the scales. Saying ‘Subhanallah wa al-Hamdulillahi’ (Exhalted be Allah and Praise be to Allah) fills the space between the heavens and the earth. Salah (prayer) is a light. Sadaqah (charity) is a proof. Sabr (patience) is a shining glory. The Qur’an is an argument either for you or against you. Everybody goes out in the morning and sell themselves, thereby setting themselves free or destroying themselves.”
